Michael has worked in tax since 2008 and has been a member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation since 2014. He joined MHA as a Senior Tax Manager in May 2022 in the Liverpool office, supporting Tony Reddin, who had recently joined as a Tax Partner. Prior to joining MHA, he worked at Grant Thornton for 6 years advising entrepreneurs on both a personal and business level.
Historically Michael concentrated on private tax matters for his clients, advising on capital taxes such as Capital Gains Tax and Inheritance Tax. However, with the typical clients who MHA act for, there are always considerations to be given to the corporate side alongside personal.
He typically works on one-off advisory projects, such as reorganisations, company sales, incorporations, wealth planning and capital taxes considerations.
Michael enjoys working with dynamic entrepreneurs as well as families who require a holistic approach to their affairs. He finds it particularly rewarding working with these clients to determine their goals, not just from a taxation perspective, but also looking at their lifestyle and personal objectives, and to coming up with solutions to meet their needs.
Michael enjoys most sports, especially football, and is a keen Liverpool fan. He also enjoys cricket and American Football. He has a love of running and has run three marathons (including London once) and numerous half-marathons.
He has a wide range of musical tastes ranging from the 1960s to the modern day and his Spotify lists are an interesting mix with anything from The Beatles and Nirvana to Jay Z!
Spending time with wife and children takes up most of his spare time outside of the office. The family enjoys bike rides, going to the beach and keeping active.
