Helping Your Young Person Shape Their Future
As a parent, guardian or teacher, you want the very best for your young person. You want them to feel confident in their choices, excited about their future and supported as they take their first steps into the world of work. We understand that completely. These decisions matter, and it is natural to want to guide them with care.
For many young people, choosing the right career path can feel like a significant moment. Apprenticeships open fantastic opportunities, yet conversations around them are sometimes filled with uncertainty. Perhaps you have heard mixed opinions or feel unsure about routes outside traditional university pathways. You are not alone. Many feel the same way.
We created this dedicated space to help you explore what an apprenticeship at MHA really involves. Here, you will find guidance, insights and clear answers to help you feel confident in supporting your young person as they make decisions about their future.
Myths About Apprenticeships and the Truth Behind Them
Understanding apprenticeships can feel overwhelming, especially with so much outdated or conflicting information. Here are some of the most common myths we hear from parents and guardians, and the reality behind them.
- Apprenticeships are only equivalent to GCSEs This is a very common misconception. Apprenticeships cover a wide range of levels, and the highest levels are equal to university qualifications. Our apprentices work toward qualifications that are equivalent to a masters degree and can achieve full chartered status. They achieve the same professional standing as graduates and often do so with more confidence, stronger practical experience and without the burden of student debt. (*You can find a table at the bottom of this page that explains all apprenticeship levels and their qualification equivalents.)
- Apprentices are only with the firm for the duration of their training At MHA, apprentices do not simply qualify and move on. They grow with us. They build strong and fulfilling careers and become trusted professionals in their fields. Many of our Directors and Partners began their own journeys as apprentices, showing that an MHA apprenticeship is the start of a long term future, not a short term placement. With the right support, training and environment, your young person can thrive well beyond qualification.
- You need finance specific work experience to apply for an apprenticeship in finance Not true. Many applicants assume they need previous experience in financial services, but our apprenticeships are designed to build knowledge from the ground up. We do not expect anyone to arrive already familiar with the industry. What matters is potential, attitude and transferable skills. Part time jobs, volunteering, caring responsibilities, involvement in sports and clubs and even personal experiences all help develop teamwork, communication, organisation and resilience. These qualities show us the mindset a young person will bring to MHA. We actively encourage applicants to reflect on these moments in their application.
- Apprenticeships are not academically demanding This could not be further from the truth. Apprenticeships at MHA are academically challenging, structured and highly respected. They include professional qualifications at Higher and Degree levels, Apprentices learn complex technical content, sit rigorous exams and work toward full chartered status. Many of our apprentices choose this route because they enjoy learning in a practical, applied environment and want to begin building their career earlier. This pathway attracts ambitious, capable young people who thrive through a mix of study, real experience and professional responsibility.
How We Support Apprentices at MHA
Your young person will not be on this journey alone. We have built a clear, structured and comprehensive support system that helps every apprentice succeed.
Hands on experience with real clients
Apprentices work with real clients and contribute to live projects from the very beginning. This early exposure helps them build confidence, learn how the profession works and grow their skills in a practical environment.
Earn while learning and avoid student debt
All studying, training, exams and professional qualifications are fully funded by MHA. Apprentices earn a competitive salary, gain the same outcomes as university graduates with no student debt and years of experience already behind them.
Study with certified qualification bodies
Our apprentices train with accredited organisations such as AAT, ATT, ACA or CTA. They attend college and structured learning sessions delivered by experts who prepare them for professional exams and chartered status.
Dedicated study time
Our apprentices receive study days built into their working week, so they can focus on learning without trying to fit study around a full workload. We work closely with training providers and managers to make sure the balance between work and study is manageable and supportive.
Award winning training and learning support
Our internal Learning and Development team provides award winning programmes that blend expert teaching and real world application. Every apprentice has a personalised development plan that helps them understand their strengths, set goals and track their growth.
Cohort based support
Starting alongside others gives every apprentice a sense of belonging from day one. They share experiences, support one another and build confidence together.

- Explore their questions together Look at apprenticeship roles, qualifications and service lines side by side so you can both understand what each path involves.
- Focus on possibilities, not pressure Remind them they are not choosing a lifelong path right now. They are choosing their next step, and there is room to grow and change.
- Talk about what matters to them Whether it is earning while learning, avoiding debt, gaining real experience or joining a supportive cohort, help them think about what feels right for their future.
