What does the role entail?

Accounts Intermediate Expectations

1. Accounts Preparation file

Fieldwork

  • Complete all working papers and seek assistance for more complex areas
  • Complete tasks set by the senior/manager
  • Take responsibility for completing work assigned
  • Ensure any issues arising from work assigned have been flagged
  • Working papers are neat and tidy to follow
  • Ensuring completion of the audit and accounts programmes
  • Reviewing draft accounts and tailoring accounting policies ready for manager review

Completion

  • Clearing review points relevant to work assigned up to and including completion section of the file


Effective communication with the senior/manager

  • Providing regular updates to the senior/manager and drive communication across team to meeting any deadlines set
  • Handover to senior/manager at end of assignment


2. Take responsibility for Corporate Services Assistants

  • Check-up with Corporate Services Assistants to ensure they are comfortable with their tasks set
  • Answering queries
  • Inform senior/manager of additional training needs


3. Take responsibility for workflow and Float

  • Review upcoming Float bookings and check with senior/manager information has been received
  • Review own Float to ensure adequate time for jobs and discuss any shortfalls with senior/manager
  • Stick to fee budget rather than Float booking and assist colleagues if you have spare capacity
  • Keep in touch with the progress of the job after Float time expires to ensure completed
  • Liaise with tax team and organise preparation/review of tax computation ahead of manager review
  • Direct client contact on accounts queries ahead of manager review
  • Keeping job tracker updated for job progress and monitoring deadlines during fieldwork process


4. Technical updates

  • Keep up to date with technical updates on Teams and implement changes on files immediately


Essential skills

  • Minimum of 3 years’ generalist experience in an accounts role, within practice.
  • Willingness to combine the demands of a full-time role whilst studying for professional qualifications.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Provide solutions to problems.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy of work.
  • Ability to prioritise own workload and be proactive.
  • Have an aptitude for figures and an interest in business and commerce.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel.


Qualifications:

  • Be educated to a high standard (GCSE/degree level)
  • Be AAT (or part ACA/ACCA) qualified.
