Job description

We are seeking an experienced individual to join our growing probate team. The majority of our team are based in our Cardiff office but there is a possibility the role could be based elsewhere.

The ideal candidate would have experience in running probate matters from inception to conclusion with the appropriate knowledge to support this.

You will be responsible for managing probate matters, of varying complexity, from instruction through to final distribution, with support, oversight and sign-off provided by a senior authorised individual. The role offers autonomy, variety, and the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to a well-respected practice as well as be part of a growing service.

Additional tax knowledge of estate administration matters (eg income tax etc) would be beneficial but is not critical to the role and additional support could be provided to develop this.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Independently run probate files from initial instruction to conclusion demonstrating your understanding of what information is required in a probate matter and why it may be important.
  • Prepare IHT forms, probate applications, estate accounts, and correspondence to clients and third parties
  • Liaise with clients, executors, beneficiaries, financial institutions, and HMRC
  • Maintain accurate records and time recoding using case management software
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation and firm procedures
  • Support the wider Private Client team with trust and estate administration tasks as needed

 Skills & Experience

  •  CILEx Level 3 or equivalent legal training or proven experience
  • Experience managing probate matters independently
  • Strong understanding of estate administration and IHT
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Good telephone manner
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Experience using Isokon software preferred but not essential
  • Comfortable working within a compliance-led, process-driven environment
