Leading with Ambition Work Experience Programme

Are you a Year 12 student eager to dip your toes into the professional world? Well, you're in luck! Our work experience programme is back and it’s better than ever!

The MHA leading with Ambition Work Experience programme is designed for Year 12 students looking for a week’s work experience placement with a leading professional service firm. You'll have the chance to explore different departments including accounts, audit, and tax, as well as learn more about the fantastic opportunities available at MHA.

This year's programme is taking place from July 1st to July 5th.

What will I do?

As part of the programme, you will be involved in a variety of tasks/sessions including shadowing staff in various departments including audit, accounts, and tax to gain insights into what a career in different departments would look like. You will also get a better understanding of the pathway to becoming a chartered accountant.

You will be involved in group projects giving you the opportunity to enhance your teamwork skills and improve your confidence. As part of the programme you will be involved in an employability session to help you understand the process for our Early Careers selection process; this session will be invaluable for when it’s your turn to start applying. You’ll get to discover more about the culture, work life, and values at MHA as well as what you would be doing if you return to MHA in a full-time position.

Worried about covering costs? Don’t worry, we’ve got you.

We will cover the cost of your travel to and from your selected office each day and lunch will be provided for you. More information will be provided after your placement is confirmed.

Certification

Once you complete the programme, you will receive a certificate and a digital badge that you can use as a reference to boost your employability, whether you decide to apply for an apprenticeship or go to university and apply for graduate schemes in the future.

With our training platform, you can enrol in a beginner bookkeeping course that offers a certificate of recognition upon completion.

Furthermore, if you successfully complete the programme and decide to apply for our apprenticeship opportunities in the future, we will be able to fast track your application subject to your performance during the programme and our apprenticeship eligibility criteria.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for MHA’s Leading with Ambition work experience programme you must:

  1. Currently be a Year 12 student, studying towards A-Levels or equivalent,
  2. Be considering a career in professional services in the future,
  3. Obtain consent from school or college to undertake the work experience,
  4. Be prepared to complete an application form and if successful a short online interview,

We work closely with Access Accountancy, a collective of firms committed to improving access to the accounting profession and offering work experience to students from a lower socio-economic background.

We have allocated some places to students that meet the following criteria:

  • attend a state school or college,
  • and are (or have been) eligible for free school meals,
  • or would be the first member of their immediate family to attend university,

12 month graduate placement opportunities

Are you looking for a placement that will broaden your horizons and give you a real taste of life in practice?

Are you taking a degree and looking for a 12-month placement to augment your knowledge and skills, with the potential for a permanent role once you’ve completed your degree?

We might just have the perfect opportunity for you!

What you’ll do

You will begin by joining our annual offsite two-day induction, giving you a real flavour of life at MHA and a dinner with our Partners and your peers.

Once the induction is complete, you will join us in our offices and get hands on experience from day one.

You will:

Get client contact throughout your placement year, building your communication and client management skills

Work collaboratively within your team, displaying our values and being guided and mentored along the way

Learn the principles and regulatory considerations of the service line you have joined, so you leave with tangible, transferable skills

Be an integral part of our team and get to see the exciting journey we are on, first hand

The work experience programme is office based, and therefore you will need to apply to an office which you could easily commute to. Our window to complete the application form will open on Monday 6th of May and close on June 21st. 

The application window may close earlier depending on number of applications and therefore we would advise you apply as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

Please note we will not be able to offer the programme in locations that are not listed and that this is an unpaid work experience programme. That said we do provide lunch throughout the week as well as reimburse your travel costs.
