Accountancy work experience programmes
Our accountancy work-experience programme will give you the opportunity to gain hands-on professional experience as well as a unique insight into working life at MHA.
MHA offers both a one-week work experience programme for school students and a 12-month placement programme for university students to undertake as part of their degree.
Our work experience and placement programmes deliver practical experience of the technical work with key employability and business skills training. You’ll walk away with a real-life understanding of the accountancy sector and working life at MHA.
Work experience
We are passionate about strengthening the links between education and business; supporting you to gain experience, to aid the big decisions you will have to make about your future. We’ve got a work experience programme designed to give you a flavour of what it’s like to work in professional services and more than that, help you to develop new skills to help you on your journey.
During our structured work experience programme, you will:
Undertake a full working week in one of our offices, meeting the team and building great relationships
Take part in virtual group sessions with the wider work experience cohort, working on a business project
Have lunch with our trainees and the chance to find out more about their career path
Have access to on demand and live training sessions, including excel, PowerPoint and bookkeeping courses
Who is eligible for our work experience programme
There are no specific entry requirements for our work experience programme. We are looking for students who want to understand more about business, enjoy building relationships, collaborating with others and share our passion for people and business
We are also a member of Access Accountancy; Access Accountancy is a collaboration of more than 25 professional services firms dedicated to improving access to the accountancy profession in the UK. We work with them to offer work experience places to students from lower socio-economic backgrounds
Access Accountancy placement
We’d love to have you on our work experience programme if you:
- attend a state school or college
- and are (or have been) eligible for free school meals (or attend a school that is above the regional average in terms of the number of students eligible for free school meals)
- or would be the first member of their immediate family to attend university.
12 month graduate placement opportunities
Are you looking for a placement that will broaden your horizons and give you a real taste of life in practice?
Are you taking a degree and looking for a 12-month placement to augment your knowledge and skills, with the potential for a permanent role once you’ve completed your degree?
We might just have the perfect opportunity for you!
What you’ll do
You will begin by joining our annual offsite two-day induction, giving you a real flavour of life at MHA and a dinner with our Partners and your peers.
Once the induction is complete, you will join us in our offices and get hands on experience from day one.
You will:
Get client contact throughout your placement year, building your communication and client management skills
Work collaboratively within your team, displaying our values and being guided and mentored along the way
Learn the principles and regulatory considerations of the service line you have joined, so you leave with tangible, transferable skills
Be an integral part of our team and get to see the exciting journey we are on, first hand
Should you decide to enter the world of accounting after you graduate this experience also counts towards the technical experience required by the professional bodies!
You should be tracking to achieve a 2:1 in your degree, but we take a flexible approach to our entry requirements and review applications holistically.
